HEN Ireland
Cluck Cluck
We regularly organise different events throughout the country and
throughout the year so that both parents and children get to enjoy
spending time together.

These events are good fun for all concerned, and a hugely
important part of being a home-educating parent as we share ideas,
resources, doubts, stresses, funny stories and successes. As you'll
see, many of them are educational too.

The children seem to enjoy it too ...

All events are open to everybody who's home-educating,
regardless of religion, race, or anything else. We're friendly and
open so even if you're shy, just come along and you'll be made very
welcome.

The main event is our Annual Conference - this is special enough to
get [its own page. ]

Gathering in Trabolgan Holiday Village, East Cork, 29 Sept-3rd Oct 2008

As in past years, some families have booked houses in Trabolgan Holiday Village.

Big Blue Barn, Carlow

HEN has negotiated an amazing deal for its members (and guests) at the Big Blue
Barn just outside Carlow on the N9 (Directions below). Whereas usually it's E7.50 per
child for an hour and a half, we pay only E5.00 per child, and we can stay as long as we
like. We arrive any time after 11.00 and can stay as long as we like. In practice we tend
to leave if it gets busy any time after 3.00 (so as not to take total advantage!) but it's not
unknown to be still there at 5.00.

The owner also allows us to bring our own food (which is normally totally not allowed),
and in return we buy our teas and coffees and drinks from him.

We regularly have between 50 and 80 children and their parents, and people have
come from the following counties: Carlow, Laois, Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford,
Waterford, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Meath, Clare and even Donegal!  (Okay, the Donegal
people were visiting friends locally - but they try to organise their visits around Big Blue
Barn dates.)

If you're home-educating or thinking of doing so, you'd be very welcome to join us on
any of the following dates:

Thursday 18th September
Monday 20th October
Tuesday 18th November
(December date to be confirmed)

Directions: The Big Blue Barn is in Deerpark Retail Park which is appx 3 miles north of
Carlow town on the N9 (so it's on the direct road from Dublin - appx 1 hour from the Red
Cow Roundabout - and is between Castledermot and Carlow). Coming from
Dublin/Castledermot, Deerpark is on your left, coming from Carlow it's on the right. If
you're coming on the N80 from either Wexford or Portlaoise, you want to join the N9 at
the Braun junction.
